What is It?

The Point Premium Root Beer International Cycling Classic / SUPERWEEK Pro Tour is world-class bicycle racing where you can enjoy entertainment that is exciting, easy, and FREE! The races are held on city streets or rural roads so there are plenty of good seats. You can stand inches away from the racers along the barriers near the announcer's stage and the Start/Finish line or bring a few lawn chairs or a picnic blanket and find a comfortable spot elsewhere on the course. Most of the race courses are less than a mile long, so the racers will pass by your location every couple minutes.

Once the race begins you'll see speed, LOTS of speed. In fact, you might be surprised by how many similarities there are between our races and stock car racing! You'll feel the rush of air when the riders pass by and see drafting, jostling, and even the occasional pileup. You'll even hear some of the same terminology.

In addition to the races, you can often enjoy live music, children's races, food, and other activities. However, the excitement during the races never lets up. Our race announcers will keep you informed as the race unfolds and there are many mid-race prizes, so when you hear a bell ring watch for the sprint! After the race is over, come over to the stage to see the awards presentations and get an autograph or two!

If you're new to cycling, check out Superweek 101 for an explanation of how the races work and look at our Glossary of Cycling Terms.

Where & When

In 2011we will be racing each day from Friday, July 8th to Sunday, July 24th. Races will be run throughout Eastern Wisconsin and Northern Illinois. Many races are in the Greater Milwaukee area. Look at the Schedule for the race dates, times, and locations.

What to Bring

  • Many of the races are located near restaurants or have food and beverage vendors alongside the course. Still, it is wise to be prepared for hot weather and bring a bottle of water.
  • Bring a folding chair or picnic blanket to sit on. Some races provide limited bleacher seating.
  • Prepare for the sun! Bring sunglasses, sunscreen, or even an umbrella.
  • Bring your camera. Maybe you'll snap a picture of the next Lance Armstrong!
  • If you're planning to attend one of the road races, bring a copy of the course map from the Schedule pages to help you find a good viewing spot. A popular viewing location is where the riders will be climbing a hill. Although the racers pass less frequently, multiple races are on the course at the same time at staggered intervals.

Be Safe!

When watching the races, please follow these common-sense rules:

  • Do not walk or ride on the course at any time. There will be riders and vehicles on the course at all times, including between races.
  • Do not lean out over the fence or sit on the curb with your feet in the road. The racers will sometimes use the entire road without warning.
  • If you need to cross the racecourse, make sure to look for oncoming cyclists or support vehicles. The cyclists will be moving just as fast as a car would! Usually, the best time to cross during the race is immediately after the pack of riders has gone by. Do not cross near corners where you cannot see oncoming traffic.
  • Avoid sitting too near the road in unfenced areas, particularly near sharp turns. Crashes are an occasional occurrence in the races and a rider may fall off the course.
  • Pay close attention to small children or pets to prevent their straying onto the race course.

Make plans to come out and enjoy the fun! We look forward to seeing you in July.
